Meet Jacqueline - founder of Apothenne, the imaginative and nostalgic home fragrance company for creating ceremony in your home.
GM: What is Apothenne?
JB: We are a home fragrance company with our flagship products being candles. We create all of our products in-house using the highest quality ingredients and materials. Our candles are paraben-free, phthalate-free and we use a blend of essential oils and premium-natural oils.

GM: What's the meaning behind the name?
JB: Apothenne – pronounced [uh-poth-en] is the combination of two words: Apothecary and Doyenne…Doyenne is a woman who is the most respected or prominent person in a particular field.

GM: Your motivation for creating home goods?
JB: It’s my first love. It is where I find the most beauty and comfort in this world. Even as a child I was always curating my own spaces; collecting décor objects and repurposing items to achieve my own aesthetic.

GM: Favorite Apothenne scent?
JB: The newest one I am working on excites me the most -it is being released in 3 weeks! But my all-time favorite is our French Garden scent for Spring and our Fire Elements candle for the wintery months

GM: How do you incorporate candles into your day?
JB: Scent is a powerful tool for ritual as well as décor. I have a small altar in my home – each morning I light a candle that sits on there and I take a few deep breathes, it is a small act that feels wildly significant. I also have a candle in each room – I decorate with scent by deciding how each space should feel by using scent. For instance, I have our Earth Element candle in the kitchen, our Sacred Embodiment candle in my bedroom, and rotate our Bourbon Sandalwood and French Garden in the living room.

GM: Favorite part of your day or ritual?
JB: I am definitely an evening ritual person. Candles lit, hot bath, and guided meditation followed by reading in bed.

GM: How can we easily create moments of peace in our day/house?
JB: Slow Down. Notice the little things, watch the way the natural light plays on the floors and ceiling. Be mindful while watering your plants, light a candle with a match-stick, and as the smoke of the match rises up in the air…make a wish. Upgrade one item in your space, I find textiles to be a pretty rewarding a beautiful way to add color, texture, warmth, and functionality.

GM: Favorite moment as a business owner?
JB: I have had a few pretty surreal, incredible moments. Seeing my candles on shelves across the country is wild. Re-orders to me speak volumes, anyone can sell something once – but doing it over and over again…that is a brand. Whenever I see an account reorder I light-up, it tells me to keep going.
